Bible passage: Isaiah 14:12-17
“12. How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! 13. You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. 14. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High."
From today, over the course of several weeks, I intend to deliver sermons about the spiritual realm, specifically the world of evil spirits. There are many people who believe in God and attend church, but have no knowledge at all about the world of evil spirits.
Since we are now in the final days when the spiritual realm is in turmoil, if we do not understand the world of evil spirits - Lucifer, the dragon, the dragon's messengers, Satan, devils, and demons - the risk and possibility of being deceived by these evil spirits will increase. Even when hearing the voices of the world of evil, some mistakenly believe they are hearing the voice of God or the voice of the Holy Spirit, and they are deceived and taken captive. However, if one knows and clearly understands the identity of this world and prays fervently, they can actually conquer and rule over the world of evil spirits. The difference between knowing and not knowing the world of evil spirits creates a significant gap in spiritual power, both in one’s faith and in living in this world.
If you understand this world, the enemy devil will tremble in fear and retreat from you. But if you remain ignorant of this world, the enemy devil will not fear you and will instead bring harm to your life. Let me explain with an analogy. Suppose there is a thief standing next to a police officer. But the police officer does not know that this person is a thief. The thief, however, recognizes the police officer because he is wearing a police uniform. Would the thief be afraid of the police officer? No, because the officer does not know his identity. So, even with the officer right beside him, the thief would act calmly and without fear. However, if the thief realizes that his identity has been exposed and that the police officer knows who he is, he will tremble in fear and flee without looking back.
A police officer has the authority to arrest thieves, but he can only exercise that authority when he knows who the thief is and where he is. If he knows nothing about the thief, his authority is useless. Likewise, although we have received the authority to be children of God, if we do not know about the world of evil spirits, we cannot exercise any authority. The enemy devil will neither tremble in fear nor flee. But if you listen well to this message, take it as spiritual nourishment, and receive grace and power from it, the enemy devil and Satan will tremble in fear when they see you, and they will have no choice but to flee in seven different directions after coming against you in one direction. Starting today, I will be preaching about the world of evil spirits over the next several weeks. Listen carefully and understand well, so that you may take this as your spiritual food and become children of God with authority.
I pray this in the name of the Lord.
1. God created angels, but He did not create Satan or demons.
Then how did evil spirits come into existence? In the beginning, when God existed alone, He conceived the plan of human cultivation. To fulfill this plan, He divided the original universe into four realms, creating the first, second, third, and fourth heavens. God also created spiritual beings - angels and cherubim - who were under His command. These beings were designed to function like robots, moving according to commands without any free will. Unlike humans, they did not have emotions to feel love when received, nor did they learn through experiences. Their sole purpose was to obey God's orders. The Bible clearly states that angels could not be considered sons of God but were merely instruments used by Him: Hebrews 1:5 says, “For to which of the angels did God ever say, 'You are my Son; today I have begotten you'? Or again, 'I will be his Father, and he will be my Son'?"
However, there was an exception. God granted only three archangels - those directly under the Trinity - human-like emotions, personality, and free will. Yet, the hearts God gave these three archangels were not all the same. While two of them received pure, transparent, and clean hearts, the third did not. Among these three archangels, Lucifer - the highest-ranking one who served God the Father - did not possess the same pure and transparent heart as the other two, who served God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. Lucifer not only served God the Father but was also in charge of music. She had a beautiful voice and played instruments, praising God and singing of His glory. Through her sweet words and melodies, she brought joy and pleasure to God. However, as an immeasurable amount of time passed, pride began to grow in her heart. It is necessary to understand this correctly. God did not predestine Lucifer to become proud, nor did He give her a heart of pride from the beginning.
Rather, because God foresaw what would eventually happen, He did not grant Lucifer the same pure and transparent heart as the other two archangels. This theological concept is known as foreknowledge and predestination. Similarly, Judas Iscariot was not predestined from the beginning to betray Jesus. He made that choice of his own free will. God, knowing in advance what Judas would do, gave him opportunities to repent. Jesus, aware of Judas' eventual betrayal, warned multiple times that one of the disciples would betray Him. Yet, despite these warnings, Judas chose the path of destruction on his own.
The same principle applies to Lucifer. God did not originally implant in her a heart of rebellion. However, because Lucifer enjoyed God's deep love and held great authority, pride gradually took root in her free will. Eventually, she desired to elevate herself above even God, reaching an extreme level of arrogance. With this mindset, Lucifer devised her own plan, believing she could achieve her desires by following it. Convinced of her success, she ultimately led a rebellion against God. Ezekiel Chapter 28 describes God's judgment on the king of Tyre, a nation that was once prosperous but fell due to pride.
However, this passage also provides insight into Lucifer’s rebellion against God before the creation of the world. Ezekiel 28:13-15 says, [13] You were in Eden, the garden of God; Every precious stone was your covering: the ruby, the topaz and the diamond; the beryl, the onyx and the jasper; the lapis lazuli, the turquoise and the emerald; And the gold, the workmanship of your settings and sockets, was in you. On the day that you were created they were prepared. [14] You were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire.. [15] You were blameless in your ways from the day you were created until wickedness was found in you. Here, the “anointed cherub” refers to Lucifer.
Although Lucifer was an archangel, she is called a cherub in this passage because her role was similar to that of the cherubim, the four living creatures, and the dragon who served God in close proximity. This highlights how intimate her relationship with God once was. Since God delights in praise, Lucifer was created to dwell on God's holy mountain, serve Him closely, and glorify Him through music, playing tambourines and lyres. Initially, she faithfully carried out God's will, but ultimately, wickedness and pride emerged in her heart. Ezekiel 28:17, first part, says, “Your heart became proud on account of your beauty, and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor.”
A prophecy about Lucifer is also found in Isaiah: Isaiah 14:12-14 says, [12] How you have fallen from heaven, morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! [13] You said in your heart, “I will ascend to the heavens; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of Mount Zaphon. [14] I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” The passage in Ezekiel describes Lucifer by comparing her to the king of Tyre, while the prophecy in Isaiah uses the unrighteous Babylonian king, who invaded Israel, as a metaphor for Lucifer’s wickedness. The “morning star” mentioned here symbolizes Lucifer. Several passages in the Bible record how Lucifer, once close to God, grew proud and turned against Him. Revelation 22:16 describes Jesus Christ as the “bright morning star.” However, the morning star in Isaiah 14:12 does not have the same positive spiritual meaning as the one in Revelation.
In Revelation, the bright morning star represents Jesus, whereas in Isaiah, it refers to Lucifer, the leader of the evil spirits. Now, let’s examine how the name Lucifer came to be associated with the morning star. In the Hebrew Bible, the original word for “morning star” is “Helel” (הֵי ֵלֵל), which means “shining one” or “morning star.” The morning star refers to Venus, the bright planet visible in the eastern sky at dawn. The name Lucifer first appeared in the Latin Vulgate Bible, translated by Jerome in the 5th century A.D.. When translating Isaiah 14:12, Jerome rendered the Hebrew word “Helel” as “Lucifer” in Latin. The Latin word “Lucifer” is derived from “lux” (meaning “light”) and “ferre” (meaning “to bring” or “bear”). It literally means “light-bearer” or “bringer of dawn.” When the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible was translated into English, it adopted the Latin spelling “Lucifer” directly from the Vulgate. In contrast, modern translations like the NIV (New International Version) use “morning star” instead of “Lucifer.” This is how the name “Lucifer” became associated with the morning star in Christian theology.
2. Then, in what ways did Lucifer devise plans to stand against God?
Lucifer, being the highest-ranking archangel with great authority, began to use her power to gather angels to her side. She first rallied the dragons, who were among the highest-ranking cherubim, along with other cherubim under their command. The Bible reveals that an enormous number of angels followed Lucifer. Since the heavens are filled with an uncountable multitude of angels, and one-third of them sided with Lucifer, we can see just how massive the rebellion against God was. However, when Lucifer first convinced the dragons, she did not openly urge them to rebel against God from the beginning. Since these dragons had been deeply loved by God at His throne, they would not have easily betrayed Him. Therefore, Lucifer devised a highly deceptive strategy to mislead them.
The following is Lucifer’s scheme to deceive the dragons: There were four dragons surrounding God’s throne, and God took delight in their radiant splendor. He always kept them close and gently caressed them. Because of this, the dragons were constantly near the throne of God, able to see His form, hear His words, and witness how He governed the spiritual realm. Lucifer knew that the dragons, being deeply loved by God, would not be easily swayed by simple persuasion. Therefore, she used cunning words and strategies to deceive them. She likely said things such as: “This is not a rebellion against God; rather, it is ultimately for His benefit. God Himself has granted me authority to accomplish this task.” Or, “Right now, it may appear that we are opposing God, but everything is unfolding according to His divine will and plan. In time, we will all be exalted to glorious positions.”
Lucifer used similar words to deceive other cherubim and high-ranking angels. She told them, “God has given me authority to be your leader and oversee everything. If you stand with me in this mission, you will one day become as beautiful and powerful as God Himself.” Although the dragons, cherubim, and angels who followed Lucifer initially understood that their actions were against God, they were ultimately persuaded by Lucifer’s sweet words. They came to believe that Lucifer had received authority from God, that their actions were actually fulfilling God's plan, and that they would one day share in His glory. Just as Lucifer, who was greatly favored by God, spoke as if she were carrying out God’s secret plan and promised immense power and glory as a result, the dragons, cherubim, and other angels were deceived and fell for her words.
To make this easier to understand, let’s consider an analogy. Imagine a company where a director, once trusted and loved by the president, develops an evil heart. Becoming arrogant and forgetting his position, he devises a plan to overthrow the president and take over the company. To do this, he first begins to gather his own supporters within the company. Thinking about whom to recruit, he realizes that he needs someone who knows the president well. So, he targets one of the president’s secretaries, someone who is familiar with the company’s secrets and the president’s ways. By doing this, he gains an influential ally. He then begins recruiting people from various departments, slowly expanding his support. However, if he were to openly reveal his conspiracy, people would likely refuse to follow him. So, he comes up with a way to deceive them. He tells them, “We are secretly working on a new project under the president’s orders. This is not about betraying the president or the company; rather, it is ultimately for the benefit of the company. If we successfully complete this mission, the president will reward us greatly.
But this must remain a secret.” Since the director appears to be someone trusted by the president and holds significant power, many employees, despite their doubts, eventually follow him in hopes of receiving a great reward. Lucifer’s scheme was exactly like this. But if God knew everything in advance, why didn’t He prevent this rebellion from happening? Despite knowing everything, the reason God allowed this to happen was because these events were ultimately necessary for the process of human cultivation. No matter how much Lucifer relied on her own wisdom and power, and no matter how high she thought of herself, everything - from eternity past to eternity future - was already unfolding according to God the Father’s divine plan.
3. What were the consequences of Lucifer’s betrayal, and what does she do with the power of darkness?
Lucifer, who rebelled against God, was ultimately defeated and cast out of the original spiritual realm along with those who followed her. Until the time came for them to be used in the process of human cultivation, they were imprisoned in deep darkness - the bottomless pit, the deepest part of the spiritual realm belonging to darkness. Isaiah 14:15 says. “But you are brought down to the realm of the dead, to the depths of the pit.” When the time for human cultivation officially began, Lucifer and the evil spirits that had been confined in the bottomless pit were granted authority within God's permission to rule over the realm of darkness and dominate the world of evil spirits.
When did God's process of human cultivation officially begin? It began when God created the heavens and the earth. Thus, on the first night of creation, Lucifer and the evil spirits were released from the abyss. On the second day of creation, they established their realm of evil spirits in a designated area in the second heaven, within the boundary permitted by God. From then until now, they have continued to rule over the world of darkness. This is why, in Genesis Chapter 1, God looked at His creation each day and declared that it was “good.” However, on the second day, God did not say, “it was good.” Now that Lucifer had been released and had gained authority over the air in the second heaven as God’s enemy and opponent, what role did she take on? She became the leader of evil, a detestable being whose purpose is to oppose and disrupt the work of God on earth. Isaiah 14:16-17 says, “Those who see you stare at you, they ponder your fate: “Is this the man who shook the earth and made kingdoms tremble, the man who made the world a wilderness, who overthrew its cities and would not let his captives go home?””
The world of evil spirits consists of various dark entities, including Lucifer as the supreme leader, along with dragons, the dragon's messengers, Satan, demons, and unclean spirits. Today, I will explain the work of Lucifer, who stands at the head of this evil world. The roles of dragons, the dragon’s messengers, Satan, demons, and unclean spirits will be covered in detail over the coming weeks. While Lucifer directs her subordinates - dragons, Satan, and demons - to carry out evil works, she herself directly engages in work that is on a higher level. One of Lucifer’s primary works is to instill greed and ambition in world leaders, driving them to seek dominance as great powers. She stirs their desire for conquest, leading them into war, invasion, destruction, and the overthrowing of nations. Jeremiah 51:34 says, ““Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon has devoured us, he has thrown us into confusion, he has made us an empty jar.
Like a serpent he has swallowed us and filled his stomach with our delicacies, and then has spewed us out.” We can see that even Babylon’s attack on God’s chosen people, Israel, was all part of Lucifer’s scheme. God governs the whole world with goodness. That is why He chooses His people within the world and seeks to guide world history through them. However, the morning star (Lucifer) also attempts to carry out her work in a similar manner. To better understand the contrast between God’s work and Lucifer’s work, we can compare them with a historical example from Korea. One of Korea’s most representative good kings is King Sejong. As a righteous ruler, King Sejong worshipped heaven and offered sacrifices to the divine. Since this was a time before Jesus was known, these ceremonies were offerings to the divine being in heaven - God. If King Sejong had not been righteous, he would have turned to idols or worshipped Buddha instead. He also ruled with wisdom and virtue.
However, even though he was a good king, one of his sons, Prince Suyang (Sejo), led a rebellion along with his followers. He seized power by killing his young nephew, King Danjong, and took the throne. Lucifer does exactly this - overturning peace and prosperity, causing division, inciting betrayal, and leading people to fight and kill one another. That is why John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy…” On a global scale, Lucifer incites nations to commit evil against each other. He instigates conflicts, leading them down the path of destruction. History is filled with endless wars, invasions, killings, destruction, despair, and ruin. Even now, the war between Russia and Ukraine continues. Russia, already a vast country, desires even more power and continues a bloody war against Ukraine. Instead of coexisting peacefully, they fight relentlessly until one side is utterly defeated.
Why does such inhumane violence happen? The truth is that behind it all, Lucifer plants greed in the minds of national leaders, urging them to become even greater superpowers. However, throughout history, we can also see that God preserves His people by raising up good leaders to guide them. Even when evil seems to rise up to the heavens, it eventually crumbles before righteousness. Looking at world events, we see that Biden left office, and Trump became president. During Biden’s presidency, society and the military were filled with immorality, including widespread homosexuality and moral corruption. However, after Trump became president, he banned homosexuality in the military and attempted to restore some moral order. He also helped to stop the war between Israel and Hamas. Who made this happen? While Lucifer destroys world peace through war, division, and revenge, God continually raises up righteous leaders to bring restoration.
That is why 1 Timothy 2:1-2 says: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people - for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” This is so that people may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. Therefore, whenever a righteous leader emerges among the heads of nations, if that person is truly fit for leadership, God raises them up to preserve nations and stabilize the world. However, Lucifer works to prevent this by bringing nations to ruin and dismantling their connection with God. She incites evil, rebellion, and betrayal, whether in nations, churches, or families. God has been working to unite the world through truth, righteousness, peace, and the gospel of the kingdom of heaven. His plan to save the world began with the selection of the Israelites, and He sent Jesus Christ to make disciples who would spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. Now, only the final stage remains.
At the same time, the enemy, Satan, has also been organizing a global effort to hinder the spread of the Gospel and the salvation of souls. Just as the Gospel is being preached worldwide, the enemy Lucifer is also weaving her own strategy to counter it. One method is through international church associations, where many churches unknowingly become members without fully understanding their true nature, leading to the corruption of faith. Organizations such as the World Council of Churches (WCC) and World Evangelical Alliance (WEA), among others, have promoted acceptance of homosexuality, anti-discrimination laws, alliances with communism, and religious pluralism. Such groups must be approached with extreme caution. However, behind these religious groups, there is said to be a secret society called the Illuminati, which, based on Enlightenment principles, operates with the goal of national consolidation, religious oppression, the establishment of a single world government, and population reduction (ultimately to 500 million).
Some dismiss it as a conspiracy theory and turn it into an unfounded rumor, but it is also true that there is much evidence of their existence. Illuminati is a Latin word meaning "to enlighten" or "to realize," and in their pyramid structure, the highest rank is called “Enki,” which is said to refer to “Lucifer.” Lucifer, in such a cunning and persistent manner, is devising conspiracies to destroy world peace through war and to eradicate religion, especially Christianity. In places where Christianity has spread, Lucifer works in the role of the Antichrist, deceiving those who seek to believe in God and leading them astray to oppose Him. At first glance, it may seem like these people believe in God, but in reality, they do not. Groups such as Salvation Sect (Guwonpa), Unification Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Mormonism fall into this category. People must not be deceived by the Antichrist and mistakenly believe that they are following true faith. We must clearly discern Lucifer’s role and crush her influence. The final judgment of these entities is clearly described in Revelation 20:7-10: [7] When the thousand years are over, Satan will be released from his prison [8] and will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth - Gog and Magog - and to gather them for battle. In number they are like the sand on the seashore.
[9] They marched across the breadth of the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s people, the city he loves. But fire came down from heaven and devoured them. [10] And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night for ever and ever. Lucifer and her followers - the evil spirits - will ultimately be cast into the lake of fire, the lake of burning sulfur, and the bottomless pit, where they will suffer judgment and torment forever. Conclusion Around 600 B.C., during a time of frequent wars in China, a famous strategist named Sun Tzu wrote “The Art of War”. In it, he stated, “If you know your enemy and yourself, you cannot be defeated.”
This means that in war, if you understand both your enemy and yourself, you can fight a hundred battles and win every time. Likewise, we must understand how the evil spirits of darkness attack and trouble us. As Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes,” if we stand firm in faith and prayer, we will always be victorious. Since the spiritual world is in turmoil in these last days, the danger and possibility of being deceived by these evil spirits is greater than ever. If you learn and understand this realm correctly, the enemy, Satan, will tremble in fear and retreat before you.
However, if you remain ignorant of this world, the enemy will not fear you but instead bring harm to your life. Therefore, put on the full armor of God, and in this chaotic spiritual age, make sure to fully learn and understand the world of Lucifer, the dragon, the dragon’s messengers, Satan, demons, and unclean spirits. Equip yourself with the Gospel of holiness, pray fervently, and become powerful believers who, like warriors, will fight and defeat the enemy a hundred times out of a hundred. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, I bless you all to become victorious. - END -
